Facility, Lester B. Person Airport, ON
Lester B. Pearson International Airport under the
Greater Toronto Airport Authority, has embarked on
a major expansion of firefighting capabilities. This
work includes an Aircraft Rescue and Fire-fighting
Facility (ARFF), a propane-fired live burn facility
for training professional firefighters for Pearson
and other fire departments.
The facility includes
a large aircraft fuselage/wing/engine assembly mock-up,
a smaller fuselage mock-up for internal fires, burn
pans, a burn pit training classroom, a control tower,
and all associated piping, subsurface membranes,
propane storage and delivery, and miscellaneous site
works. The ARFF is intended to simulate fuel spill
and external and internal aircraft fires. All site
works and equipment were tendered as Design/Build,
at a cost of $2.9 million.
