Woodstock
Market Centre,
Woodstock, ON
This project involved the renovating of an historical (1894) building previously
used as a Farmer's Market and Police Building into a live playhouse theatre and
conference centre.
Balancing the existing strict space constraints of height and width were important
to provide an audience chamber that provided exceptional viewing and acoustical
qualities. The result was a theatre that seats 250 people in a shoe box galley
style arrangement. Reinders’ knowledge of lighting designs were challenged in
utilization of the Theatre Group's existing lights that needed major refurbishing
and only a limited budget for additional new fixtures. Acoustics played a major
role in the theatre design. The acoustics had to meet the needs of the Theatre
Group for utilizing the spoken word and acting while also meeting the City's
needs of using the auditorium for a small conference centre.
