King's Christian Collegiate Phase II
Library Expansion, Oakville, ON
King's Christian Collegiate consists of a 40,000
sq. ft. secondary school designed for an initial
student population of 300. This building is composed
of two parts:
- a two storey "academic" wing
- a one storey (two storey height)
"athletic/community" wing
The "academic" wing contains all the classrooms
and general administrative facilities spread out on two floors access by stairs
at each end of the building and by an elevator centrally located for complete
barrier free accessibility. This wing of the school is recognized on the exterior
by the rhythm of brick arches, set forward, that march along Burnhamthorpe Road.
The "athletic/community" wing contains
the library and gymnasium, which will also serve as the main area of assembly
for school productions and community events. This part of the school is immediately
recognized from the exterior by the elegantly curved heavy timber roof that opens
onto the natural landscape of the school grounds.
